This was my first visit to New Orleans. Hard to believe that it took me this long. I won't expound on the virtues or anti-virtues of the place on account of the fact I know people who are really from there and experienced major tragedies due to Katrina, which makes anything I say seem trivial and boring.
But as I strolled the streets, I just kept thinking at every turn - seeing gorgeous houses, drunken punks, trapeze girls, fried pickles, and antique shops - that this is my kind of town for sure. It felt strangely, beautifully, like a homecoming.
